How to take the 12 Steps “Quickly & Often”

Formatted by Wally Paton, an Alcoholics Anonymous archivist from Tucson, Arizona, Back to Basics is a reenactment of a 1940s AA beginner meeting where participants are guided through all 12 steps in four 1-hour sessions. Originally presented over the course of four weekends, Back to Basics is, in this presentation, converted to PowerPoint and delivered in one day usually beginning at 9:00AM and going through lunch which provides attendees the time to complete a gentle assets and liabilities inventory and share this with a pre-selected sharing partner. The program usually concludes at 3:00PM.

Back to Basics is an experiential workshop which demystifies the 12-step process and gently shows how the steps link together. It has proven to be a powerful tool for newcomers and experienced steppers alike and provides an opportunity to make commitment decisions which reenergize an existing 12 step recovery program or forms the basis for beginning a journey of recovery.

Carver Brown discovered Back to Basics on a sight visit to the Betty Ford Center in Palm Springs, CA. There Carver learned that Back to Basics had transformed and reenergized the Alumni program and so deeply affected the center that it had been incorporated into the treatment plan for all clients of the Betty Ford 28-day program.

This effective “program of recovery” is an intensive workshop where you will learn to work all A.A. Twelve Steps in one day, just like the early A.A. pioneers! “Back to Basics” is modeled on the original A.A. format from the mid 1940’s that produced a 50-75% recovery rate from alcoholism. This workshop is also effective for Al-Anons and for other addictive/compulsive disorders.

Bring an AA BIG BOOK, a pen & notebook, & a highlighter to the workshop.

There is no fee for the workshop. A 7th Tradition Basket will be passed to help cover expenses
